The Interior Paint Prep Checklist We Never Skip
70% of a great paint job lives in the prep. Here's the exact checklist our crews work through before a single drop of paint hits the wall.

Cheap paint jobs fail at the prep stage, not the paint stage. Here's the no-shortcut checklist we run on every interior repaint, whether it's one room or an entire house.
Protect first
Drop sheets on every floor surface, plastic over fixed furniture, painter's tape on trims, switches and skirting. Five extra minutes here saves an hour of cleanup.
Repair the substrate
Sand glossy areas, fill nail holes and cracks with the right filler, sand smooth, spot-prime patches. Skipping any of this telegraphs through the topcoat under raking light.
Wash and prime
Sugar soap kitchens and bathrooms, prime stains and bare patches, vacuum dust, then apply two full coats of premium paint — never builder's grade.
